This past early May marked only the 2nd time in history that I've visited this lovely historic landmark of a park, 1st ever with my wife & kids.

We live pretty far east & north in Lake County over in Beach Park so sadly we don't get out this way often. Been to McHenry County myself quite a few times way back when I was living in Round Lake.

Since we just got done visiting the Tulip Fest in Spring Grove, explained to my wife that I'd give her a short tour of the county before eating dinner so this lovely town square came to mind.

Mentioned to my wife that this was where Groundhog Day was filmed and she was delighted hearing this. My boys enjoyed running around chasing each other that is till after 15 minutes of being in the park, it started raining.

Oh well, least I got some pics compared to the year 2001 the last time I was here when my phone didn't have a camera or internet capable.

Felt good being here in general and may come back maybe next month if there's some kind of Christmas/winter fest celebration going on otherwise the spring when the flowers start to bloom.

Always love the square at Christmas time! We had dinner at a new restaurant "Squire on the Square" and enjoyed the Christmas lights around the square at the same time.

Very neat little town square. We went to the opera house which was great. Walked through the square with all the lights. Can’t wait to visit again.

The visit was impromptu, but had so much fun. The citizens and business owners are great supporters of the community and knowledgeable about the movie Groundhogs Day (Bill Murray & Cast Ensemble). The restaurant waitstaff, a wonderful couple of ladies who are very active in the art side of the community, and of themselves invested, accomplished, and admirable as talented artists, successful women in business and leadership, and community minded. They also skillfully educated on the wonderful aspects & rich history of the town outside of the movie.
Payton, the son of the owners of the Bed & Breakfast in the movie is a knowledgeable, thoughtful young gentleman who gave us a tour, shared the lovely story of how his mother's life long dream of owning a B&B came to fruition. Btw, B&B guests who were departing that day, left with a strong demonstration of gratitude and spoken appreciation of the accommodations and their stay. FYI, to book a B&B stay for an actual Groundhogs Day is at the 5 year mark! We decided to return in the fall for the loca(s)l color and the autumnal color. The architecture of downtown, the historic homes, the warm & friendly people is a real draw to want to return. The back drop of the movie is a bonus!

Could not disagree about the community supporting each other. Drop by Woodstock to just walk around and realized the community is welcoming homecoming team at the square. Family members were all prep up along the street awaiting the team.
