The brochure cakes they make here are always so delicious. But asking for a custom cake? Good luck. I asked for a specific cake and was told the only thing that couldn’t be done the same was the cherries yet this is what I got vs what was asked for. Soooo disappointed because it’s not an ugly cake but it’s not what I asked for, thankfully it was good and my guests loved it regardless but I was sooo sad it didn’t match my party aesthetic! If you aren’t able to deliver what is being asked for please just be honest, I was charged $90 and the person who I got the inspo picture would’ve charged me $60, it was her work (she’s a small business ) so i know she would’ve delivered it as asked for I just took too long to place the order ( MY BAD FORSURE ) People get cakes for special and meaningful events, it literally sucks when you see what you get and it’s not what you asked for but are stuck with it because WHO could pull another cake out of their a**? In an hour before the event it’s needed for?

Wow! We had a breakfast sandwich with bacon and this beautiful chipotle aioli and a bacon breakfast borrito— it’s not cheap but it’s worth it.

Buyer beware: Noticed they left the apple sticker on. Which means they do not wash their produce before putting them in your food. Eating unwashed fruits and vegetables can give you Listeria, E. coli, and Salmonella.

I've previously had good experiences with their pastries, but my recent experience leaves me concerned about returning. There is also an inability to customize online sandwich orders which is unfortunate.

Edit: Management reached out and was very kind and understanding. I really hope they continue to improve.

Oh my goodness, I can't say enough positive things about our experience with The Buttery. We had a small wedding in Santa Cruz and I completely forgot about ordering a wedding cake. I called The Buttery and they contacted their cake decorator who came in on her day OFF to decorate our wedding cake. They provided me with four beautiful options and it was exactly how we pictured it. A two tier red velvet cake and the taste was divine. Since our wedding was so small, we only ate the top layer and I'm not kidding you, I finished the bottom layer BY MYSELF and I'm not even a sweets person it was just that good.

Thank you to the cake decorator who came in on her day off to make our dreams come true and the rest of the staff that helped make it happen for us. We appreciated it more than you know and love that The Buttery was part of our special day.

I ordered a small heart shaped cake for my wedding on 10/3 and requested the words ‘til death’ to be written on it, a pretty common saying for a wedding cake. Imagine my surprise when we go to do our cake cutting the day of and the word TIT is written on my wedding cake - yes you read that right they wrote tit death on my wedding cake. I’m not sure how that was missed throughout the whole process, you would think before writing the word tit on a wedding cake you would think to maybe double check that… I’m really not sure how this could’ve happened other than laziness and extreme lack of attention to detail. When I reached out about my concern I was given a partial refund only for the design fee.

The gender reveal cake was absolutely stunning and delicious! The design was flawless, and cutting into it to reveal the surprise was such a magical moment. It truly made our special day unforgettable—highly recommend!

Cake was delicious and the only reason I am giving more than 1 star. My original pick up time was 11am on Saturday 8/10 (order placed on 7/31). I called Thursday 8/8 at 7:30am to see if there was anyway I could pick up earlier than 11am. I was told the earliest would be 10am, which I was totally fine with but said that we would be in a rush at that point. My sister got to the bakery at 10:15am. She was still waiting for the cake at 10:40am. They were trying to find someone to ice the lettering on the cake. Nobody read the order slip because the sayings were switched and the font color on one of the cakes of completely wrong.

The white cake should’ve said happy birthday Katherine in purple lettering; it said happy birthday Michelle. The chocolate cake should’ve said happy birthday Michelle in white font; it said happy birthday Katherine in purple.

I would recommend you ask to look at the cakes before they box them up because this was big mix up. Also call right when they open to be sure they will have your order ready on time the day of pick up.

Wow! Pastries are out of the world! Tried Almond (Marzipan) Croissant; it was delicately filled with a layer of marzipan at the bottom with all layers of croissant above, decorated with sliced almonds, and dusted with powdered sugar on the top. By looking at the size, as a marzipan lover, I expected a bit more of marzipan filling. However, it was very fresh, delicious and not too sweet (almond croissant was not in a croissant shape).

Tomato Pesto Croissant ( it looked like a Danish cheese Pastry) which melted in the mouth.. very flaky with a slice of tomato on a layer of pesto filling, topped with cheese (see the pics) it was just perfect!

Tried several cakes, cup cakes etc. before, nothing stood out hence four stars.

There are few disappointments… fresh strawberry cream cakes slice is so dry and tasteless. Cake part tasted like the worst store bought angel cake see the pic. Bear claw was also a disappointment. Mario berry chocolate cup cake is ok.

I highly recommend their pastries, especially these pastries hit my sweet spot.Tip go in the morning and get the best.
