Awesome time had! If you can go early to watch the goat milking, do it. Whitney was an awesome guide while we pet the babies, the mamas, watched milking, and ended with cheese tasting. This is small operation and intimate tour.

Dogs were awesome too. Do it!

Bought goat cheese from this creamery at our local farmers market a little over a week ago. Not only was it very expensive, but in the few days it was covered with mold. The expiry date is 09/29/2024. Don't ask me what it tastes like - I wouldn't know, I never got a chance to try!

I encountered Stepladder cheese during a visit to Paso several years ago and have been a fan ever since. They ship to SoCal in eco-friendly, insulated, packaging and the cheeses always arrive in great shape. I recommend Big Sur, Ragged Point, Cabrillo, Vino Paso, and the cow-milk and goat-milk cheddars.

I toured the farm facility today and had a great time! Stepladder has 750 acres, but you are in a 50 yard radius of where you park. Kristin was the guide and she gave us a good look at the goats, the milking process, the cheese making facility, and led us through a cheese sampling. She also (impressively!) belted out a short song that I’ll leave for you to enjoy during your own visit.

You’ll encounter a wonderful herding-breed farm dog with limitless energy. He’ll want you to throw the ball or stick he brings to you, so be prepared. You also may encounter one of the Maremma dogs used to guard the livestock on the property—the reason why no pets are permitted to visit. She was friendly to all the people, and I got the lean that is typical from many western LGDs.

The tour was very overpriced for what’s offered. It was limited to a small area and mostly petting goats and tasting a small amount of cheese. Would not recommend unless tour expands or price is dropped.

The drive up to the creamery is very nice and relaxing and the cheese is absolutely delicious!! However, for the price I do feel it needs to offer a little more of an experience. Maybe a cute hay section with a private photo opportunity with one or two goats, also, when you are tasting the cheese, they should have wine for purchase so it’s more relaxing.
