The proprietor quoted me a price of $525.00 for a box blade (an implement used for grading and moving dirt and other material). When I arrived at his business to purchase it, he claimed the price was actually considerably higher ($825.00). At first he claimed I had asked the price of a back-blade (which he also carries), until he pulled up and re-read the Email he sent to me. He then stated he had confused his quote with one for the back-blade, and couldn't afford to sell me the box blade for the price he'd quoted..

While it was probably an honest mistake, it nonetheless cost me about four gallons of diesel fuel (@ $4,21 per gallon) and 3 hours of wasted time,

I've misquoted prices in my own business - but I always kept my word and sold the product for the amount I quoted, even when I had to take a loss to do so, because it's the honorable thing to do.

Although it was probably an honest mistake rather than intentional bait and switch, I'd recommend caution if dealing with him.
