Great local spot. A community landmark because of all the things the owner does for Shepherd. There are things on the menu that are just average but there are other things that are outstanding. Decent draft selection, full bar but this is a restaurant not a party bar.

My wife and I had an enjoyable fish dinner there tonight. She had the perch and I had the cod. Both were excellent. Beer was cold and everything was reasonably priced. Michelle, the bartender, was great. Highly recommend.

First time here. This bourbon was fantastic. Woodford Reserve. Anyway, it's the only pic I took. The maple bacon cheddar burger was fantastic. I stuck with the homemade chips and I am glad I did! Delish. We also got some fried mushrooms. Fabulous. The service was great. Very attentive. If you have not been here it is worth a try.

It was slow that evening, which was GREAT for my friend and I! We were able to ask the bartender for "random" shots and we didn't feel like we were monopolizing her time! She was awesome! Will definitely have to make the drive there again (I live 1.5 hours away..... But for me it's on the way to Traverse City!) 1000000% WILL go back! Oh and the food was delicious!

Home town love. This bar is full of delicious food. Homemade with lots to choose from. Good place to stop by after work and have a cold one, so many beers to pick from. They also do special items on Fridays. On Sundays they have an amzing brunch buffet. If you want great food and a good time shepherd bar is the hot spot to be.

Quick and friendly service. Older bar with a warm vibe. My chicken fingers were a little well done but the fries were excellent.
Warning, if you use the Scorpion hot sauce be prepared to start your mouth on fire! 😆

The last time I was here it was the night of Halloween. My daughter & I stopped in for a quick bite while we were waiting for my other children to get done trick-or-treating. It was really busy, but I expected that. We were able to find a spot despite it being crowded and sat down to order. We waited 10 minutes to even be greeted by a server and another 5 for her to take our order. Then we waited 20 MORE minutes for her to even bring us our drinks (which she brought with our food) Ive worked in food service for years; in almost every position, so I totally get it being busy and being overwhelmed and forgetting things. However, communication with your guests is the key. If our server would have greeted us right away and told us she would be with us as soon as she could, I would have understood. To me, it looked like she was fairly new at serving because it was obvious that she didn't have any sort of routine. Plus, she wasn't overloaded with tables. The restaurant was busy but that was mostly in the bar part. We were on the dining side and our servers' section didn't seem full. (She had enough time to get on her phone and stand around and talk to the other servers) She also didn't even bother to apologize for taking so long with our drinks bc she clearly forgot about them.
The food was also really disappointing! I've heard great things about the Shepherd Bar so when I ordered Boneless Chicken Wings for $10 and in actuality what the server brought were chicken nuggets!!! 5 SMALL chicken nuggets. McDonald's has bigger nuggets and they even taste better She even told me that they get a lot of complaints about them when I said something to her. (Which, if I were the server, I would have told my guests that when they ordered them instead of making them wait 20 minutes just for them to be extremely disappointed) The entire experience was extremely disappointing. Again, I've worked in restaurants for years so I know what it's like when it's busy and you're overwhelmed and frustrated and ppl are being rude...it's hard! But you've gotta communicate with your guests! Especially if she was a new server. Idk if that was the case but if she was she shouldn't have been scheduled on such a busy night.
They did have a big bowl of candy on the bar....so my daughter and I satisfied ourselves with that instead! 😆

This place is Great! Normally I’m not the reviewing type, but Shepherd Bar & Restaurant has outstanding food and excellent customer service. Our waitress Keegan was So sweet and personable. If you’re traveling through or local stop and treat yourself to a relaxing and enjoyable experience. Super Tasty food!
