We loved the visit to Shasta dam which includes guided tour to dam. You need to get (free) tickets at the visitor center and meet the guide on top of the dam. You go down 400 feet to Shasta powerplant area while guide takes you through the history of how the dam was built and stories of the people behind the effort. I also recommend watching the movie at the visitor center which is educational and worth the time. Views from the visitor center and from on top of the dam are incredible.

This was an unplanned and 👌 awesome stop on a road trip. There's plenty of free parking. And nearby shade trees, well maintained grounds, picnic tables. A visitor's center and interesting tour. Giant reservoir on one side and power generation on the other. You can walk all the way across and enjoy quite stunning views. The wind kicks up even if it's a sunny day - maybe bring a jacket.

Came here with my kids to check out the local swimming and fishing. Early May. I was in awe of the grandeur of the foothills and mountains but disappointed in how much litter was on the beach and in the water. I would not swim here. There was literally trash in the water, foam cups, food wrappers, even a foam padded chair. Lots of fishing line everywhere, caught in the trees and strewn in between the rocks. We didn’t stay very long. Despite that it was overcast, the lake itself was quite stunning. Check out the picture!

A must-see for the views alone! The Shasta Dam Visitor Center offers incredible views of the dam, Shasta Lake, and Mt. Shasta. Even if tours are unavailable, a walk across the dam is worth the trip. There's a great picnic area and visitor center too!

Amazing tours that are free! The dam is over 400 feet tall and is incredibly thick. Loved ever minute of the tour. Also this place is great for dates and seeing some wildlife. The deer love this place. Saw someone feeding a deer marshmallows ( don’t do that).

This was an unplanned stop on a road trip, and we are so glad we did it! It was great to walk on top of the dam and see both sides. People were boating on the lake and picnicking on the grass nearby.

There was a sign at the beginning of the dam with information about a guided audio tour but I did not take advantage of it so I don't know if it worked. It was very windy that day and I didn't have signal (Verizon) so I don't know if I would have been able to access it anyway.

In any case, it was just nice to stroll around and admire the beautiful views. We could also see how low the water was in the lake.

Beautiful shaded grassy area with tables for a picnic. Lots of squirrels running around. The visitor center closed pretty early at 3 pm on a Friday of Memorial day weekend so we weren't able to see the visitor center. Nice views of the lake.

Almost 80% full Jan 2023 seeing the 2nd largest dam. Big reservoir on one side, power generation on the other and then there’s this dam in between.
Plenty of free parking, some picnic area with benches, a good family picnic place maybe.
