Stopped in for a quick coffee and ended up sitting for a while. Nice relaxed vibe throughout this small, yet open cafe. Clean, warm welcoming atmosphere will have you wanting to sit and stay for a spell. I tried the Hit & Sit and it was quite enjoyable. They make their own syrups in house and the care and quality shows. Their signature syrup is a honey with cinnamon that is very good in a latte. Give these guys a stop when you are in the area.

Outstanding coffee. We roast at home, so we’re pretty picky/snobby. The Costa Rica they had this morning was great.

Finally, a coffee shop that pays attention to the water used. Expensive filters help to make coffee at Refuge the safest and possibly the tastiest in Fairhope.

Fairhope water is less than outstanding, thanks to "mystery powder" from China, which arrives with a "toxic waste" skull symbol on every bag. This powder is summarily dumped into the municipal water. Nothing is tested except the fluoride levels (from chemical waste, not pharma grade fluoride by the way).

It's so heartening to see that a town like Fairhope trusts the health of its citizens to a nation across the sea with a president who brags that his people "believe they are descended from 'The Dragon'." If you don't believe that, then go to Youtube and search for "trump xi dragon." The video will come right up.

Anyway, the owner of Refuge is a published author. He's also well traveled and knows how to source really high quality beans from small farms in central America, which are roasted in-house. Kudos! It's so great to find beans that are not "Arabica," like nearly everyplace else.

The honey cinnamon latte was perfect! So perfect we stopped each morning of our trip for one. Coffee cake was delicious and so was the banana bread.

Stopped in for a cup of coffee; however, no good morning, can we help you, nothing. Ignored for 3-4 minutes. There was no one in line, and two workers were present. Service? ?

All of refugees Google information show them open today, specifically sharing the shortened times because it is New Year's day. We drove to both locations in Fairhope and both were closed. Very disappointed because we live in the Robertsdale area. They do need to make sure and update their Google information. We generally really enjoy their lavender latte and coffee.

Had coffee with a friend. Service was great and atmosphere was good for chatting. Glad to have two of theses in Fairhope. Hard to see from 98 though because of the big food truck in front of building.

Refuge is so understated on the outside. Inside it's a handsome sanctuary to enjoy some first-rate beans. The prices are great, it's clean and well lit; and it offers a number of seating options to social distance or share time with others. Brands are roasted in house and the espresso is rich with an impressive creamy head, but not so bold that you'll have to brace before sipping; smooth with no bitterness. They have a few non-coffee offerings and things to nosh. A fine place to plan your day!
