My first time and they
exceeded my expectations. Very organized! Got in a huge line but it moved fast and my chilis are amazing!! Loved it!! Will be back!!

I ordered 2-25 lb bags of xx-hot fresh, I picked it up 8-27-22 a.m. very organized pick up system from the house on Colima. Well that’s the only good thing. I roasted the chili myself at home, but am very DISAPPOINTED with the size of chili. No Chile was longer than 3-4 inches long and half were red. I called el Rey to see if this was normal and NOBODY had bothered to call me back.

El Rey farms is not an actual farm.
At least not here it isn't.
This address is a house and they only take orders for New Mexico chili 4 weekends out of the year. The last 2 in August and the first 2 in September.
They sell un-roasted chili roasted chili, chili pods, chili powder and if you want to have your chili roasted, you wait in your car and you are seen by the order you came in.
If you like chili, especially New Mexico chili, than you have to order from El Rey farms.

Order every year and the quality is always great. This year the chili's were dried out and obviously sitting around awhile. And I usually have them roasted but opted out due the extremely long lines. I roasted them at home on my bbq and found alot of them to be rotted, broken or damaged. If I had roasted them there I would have never seen the rotted ones and would have eaten them. Not good! Now I'm questioning ordering them next year from El Rey Farms.

We had pre-ordered and paid to pick up a large bag of X-hot chili in La Puente on September 7 (today). We were on time, before our scheduled appointment. Sat around for hours just to be told they sold out (How is this even possible We had ordered and paid back in July!!). Very, very bad service. So we had to leave without chili and now we're not sure if we'll get any chili or our money back? Extremely disorganized and poor planned.

The quality from 2021 were not as good as I had in the past. The amount of red wrinkled ones was about 30% of the bag. Many damaged green ones also. They were not large and meaty as they had been in the past. I always roast myself so I'm aware of past quality. I think I'll skip this year and purchase from the local grocery stores. The stores are not really hot like I love the them, but their quality is superior and the flavor is there.

Go figure conartists from mexico ripping everyone off. I'm shocked...not!
They claim to have powder year round and they'll take your money and never ship it. Then, they refuse to respond to be accountable to the customer. Well, we all have a great tool. Call the local government there and complain. If enough of us do, this family of thieves will be shut down forever.

Not sure what is up with these 1 Star reviews. I've bought The Green Chiles from El Rey for over 15 years and have nothing praise for these people. I even used to drive 5 hrs from N California to pick up Chile and Jim always had something extra for me for making the 5 hr drive down to So Cal. I'm now in OR and I'm working on a way to get down there to get chile again this year. 5 Stars to the El Rey Farms crew.
