My best friend, who is Indian, recommended this place, and so far, we’ve been here twice—and plan to come back again soon! The food has been really good. Since I’ve only tried their dishes twice, I haven't noticed any decrease in quality like some others have mentioned. However, I did find the Cholle Bhature a bit too greasy, and it wasn’t puffy, even though we picked it up right after our name was called. We tried that and the Masala Dosa, both of which we really enjoyed. We’ll probably order the same dishes next time!

Keema samosas are a little salty but packed with filling and flavor. Fresh veggies in the market are limited but the frozen and dried selection always has what I need. Staff is very helpful.

Very lively space. Are here with my dad a while back for lunch and we are indoors. It was on parents weekend and there was a lot of free parking. He got the chole bhature and I got the pav bhaji. The bhaji reminded me of the street food I've had in Mumbai. Entire experience can be likened to an Indian cafeteria. Very nice

I have ordered chicken thali and the smell of chicken is very bad, I can smell rotten meat smell. I couldn’t able to eat the whole plate. It’s not only chicken curry but also tandoori chicken is bad. $22 is wasted. So try to avoid and it may be not good for health. I am concerned about the meat they get from.

I was excited to finally try Viks Chat after hearing so much about it. Unfortunately, my first visit left me feeling disappointed. While the atmosphere was pleasant, the prices seemed exorbitant for what was served. I can't imagine $12 for one aloo paratha, it was a bit of a shock.
I ended up ordering a thali, Chhole Bhature and dahi pakodi. The dahi pakodi and chhole bhature were so so but the thali was not good.

Viks is a well-known Berkeley destination for Indian groceries and a wide selection of Indian food. The food hall itself is a no-frills cafeteria-style area. They have one of the widest selection of Indian food I’ve seen anywhere, including some harder to find regional dishes. The flavors are as varied as their selections, with a mix of hits and misses. For our tastes, their chicken curry thalis was great and flavorful, the biryani was okay but over-seasoned, and the koliwada fish seems to have been left in the fryer for a bit too long. Overall a nice place to grab a decent meal and enjoy the variety of Indian food.

well known and large indian grocery store in the industrial area of berkeley serving classic indian chaat. food was solid but a little overpriced. overall, above average chaat place but doesn’t blow your mind.

pani puri: best dish, ingredients were fresh.

dhokla: also fresh and solid dish, a little too dense though

pav bhaji: skip, unmemorable and leaned too heavy on the onion.

Disappointing Decline in Quality

I used to love Viks, but sadly, it’s just not the same as it was six years ago. The taste has really gone downhill. The food now seems greasier with way more oil, and the prices have gone up significantly. What used to be a favorite spot has become a bit of a letdown. It’s disappointing to see such a change in quality, especially since it used to be so good.
