Ikeda’s – 5/5 Stars

Ikeda’s is a hidden gem that combines the best of a specialty grocery store and a roadside diner, and it’s worth every bit of the hype. Whether you’re stopping at the Davis or Auburn location, you’re in for something special.

Let’s start with the pies—specifically, the Razzleberry Pie. It’s always fresh, bursting with flavor, and easily one of the best I’ve ever had. Pair that with one of their huge, made-to-order burgers, and you’ve got a meal worth the drive. My go-to is the Ortega and Avocado Burger with onion rings and bacon—it’s packed with flavor and cooked perfectly every time.

The Auburn location is the heart of the operation. It’s where the magic happens—tamales, pies, cobblers, all made fresh daily. Plus, it has a burger shop attached, offering hot food you can enjoy while browsing their incredible selection of goods. The Davis location is a bit more focused on fresh produce, with a larger selection of fruits and vegetables, but it still delivers the same high-quality tamales and baked goods delivered daily from Auburn.

What sets Ikeda’s apart is the unique assortment of items you won’t find at big commercial grocery stores. Their shelves are stocked with specialty hot sauces, marinades, dried fruit, wine, and top-notch meats. Everything feels curated and personal, with an emphasis on supporting small, privately owned businesses.

It’s always bustling, and parking can be a little tricky, but trust me—it’s worth it. Whether you’re picking up fresh produce, browsing the shelves for a new favorite hot sauce, or indulging in one of their unbeatable pies or tamales, Ikeda’s is a must-visit.

Nice grocery store in Auburn. Good location for a pit stop on the way to Tahoe. Lots of grocery items to choose from, including their famous pies. The famous burger was surprisingly delicious! But the wait time can be significant, especially during summer weekends. The smallish parking lot makes it difficult to find a spot, although there’s some street parking nearby.

We have long enjoyed Ikeda's delicious pies, but yesterday (Wednesday) we visited to enjoy lunch...What a delight! The best burger I have had in a very long time. Victor, waited on us at the counter and was just very personable and efficient with a great sense of humor...The whole behind-the-counter team was great! My wife loved her Crispy Chicken Sandwich and the Original Burger is superb (but very filling as it is actually two burgers). We are going to make the trek to Auburn on a regular basis to enjoy the many offering of this place, but yes, it will be during the week and not weekends...grin.

The pies and cobbler are so good here! My favorites are the banana cream pie and cherry pie, but I recently had the cherry cobbler and I think that's my new all time favorite. I like the sweetness and texture of the cobbler topping and look forward to trying the other flavors. The chicken pot pie is kept hot in a warmer and is a great option if you don't have time to wait for your order. It is still very fresh and piping hot. There is tons of white meat chicken and fresh veggies but I'm not the biggest fan of white meat so next time I would try the beef version. The crust is great. Very buttery and flaky. All the burgers are really excellent and the dungeness crab sandwich is very good. Three onion rings are also very nicely done.

They do not wrong here. The fries are massive and one order is enough for 2, also, their shakes are to die for.

I purchased the pumpkin muffins and I ate 2 in 2 days. The customer service is always great. Love stopping in after a hike.

You may have noticed this place as always being busy as you drive up Highway 80 to Truckee. Ikeda's is a market that sells fresh produce, meats, and other food items, as well as a deli and bakery. They are known for their handmade fruit pies. they have a nice gourmet section with a great wine selection. They also make the best burger that are worth the wait! You cant go wrong here.
