This is a good place to get your kids involved. My only complaint is Poultry Chain Chickens. Most 4H clubs charge $25 for around 15 birds. Saline County 4H charges $12.50 for each set of birds and they pay the other $12.50. At the County Fair (just like every other 4H club), you give 3 of those birds back to the 4H to sell for their income. We had a predator get our baby birds. Because I did not have any to show at the county fair, I had to pay them the average of what they sold for which is $30 per bird. You agree to this when you pick up the birds. I ordered birds for three children. The most those missing birds should have cost me was $12.50 which is what the 4H paid. Instead, I ended up paying almost $30 per bird so I ended up paying $275.00. We tried to join a different 4H this year other than Saline County. I had talked to them and told them that I was nervous about getting Poultry Chain Chickens because of that money that I had to pay. They told me that $25 is the full price of those poultry chain chickens so they would have never charged me anything if I didn't show up with those 3 birds. Other than this mishap which I thought was almost robbery considering they only had $12.50 in these birds, I would recommend 4H.

The Saline County Extension Office was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the county fair and when and how to enter the children’s art projects. They also have games, books and other items that you can check out or purchase. Very friendly!
