Rented the same bike two days in a row and it was great. The charge was $15/hour and they prorate the time, which is nice. The staff was friendly, everything was simple and well explained. The bike was well maintained and got me around the entire island (took about 55 minutes).

All in all, a great experience.

Excellent advice and friendly service.

I went in to rent two adult bikes and the tagalong, which I thought would be a good fit for my two small sons. When I explained the situation the staff recommended a different option, the Weehoo. This was a much more stable ride for my sons, who can pedal but aren't past training wheels.

The staff talked us through riding and balancing with the boys aboard. They then adjusted the bikes and seats for both us and the kids so that we were most comfortable, and away we went. Easily the best money I've spent on Mackinaw in terms of adding to our experience on the island.

The rental included helmets and complimentary bottles of water for all of us, which seems to be pretty typical for all of the bike rental places but was helpful.

EDIT: I took no pictures of the inside of the shop since I was wrangling the boys, but as you see from Grandpa and the youngest grandson, it was an outstanding ride!

Check-in staff was rude and not friendly at all. I asked them to change my bike or at least change the seat to a comfortable one, but they refused that and told me we don't have another one. Avoid this place until they start giving their employees training on how to be nice and provide good customer service!!

I had a terrible experience with Mackinac Bike Barn. The staff and manager were rude, and they overcharged me without explaining any policies upfront. I rented a tandem bike around 3:45 PM, and no one mentioned the shop’s closing time or late return fees. When I returned at 6:30 PM, the shop was already closed. I noticed a missed call from them around 5:45 PM, but the voicemail only mentioned they left a lock for me at the counter to lock the bike upon return(still no mention of late fees). I followed their instructions, locked the bike, and left a message letting them know the time I returned the bike.
The next day, I was shocked to be charged $150 for a about 3-hour rental. The rate for a tandem was $20/hour FYI. When I called to discuss it, the staff was dismissive and rude, even hanging up on me. The manager was no better, telling me, “We’re charging you $150, end of story, and don’t come back.”

This isn’t about the money. If I was told these policies upfront and I was late knowing the policies. I would pay them without questions asked. This is about how they treated me, despite doing everything they asked. I felt completely mistreated. Be warned if you plan to rent from here. BTW, the bike seats moves easily, so check the seat out before you ride it out. I read couple other reviews and they had similar experiences so be warned again. Thanks.

Be careful! This is how they defraud tourists!

This must be FRAUD! They rent you but don't let you know their close time and anything about the hidden fee! After you found out that you were charged $150 for a only $60 rental, you called them but only got treated very rude. The reason was you were half an hour later than their close time, even though you locked their bike carefully as instructed. No one would think there would be a fine for late return, because they did not mention it at all but pretended it's OK to be late, just lock the bike outside. Things just happened like they they're very happy to see you late so they can charge more unreasonably! This is totally NONSENSE!

Decent price and great quality bikes. We rented 3 tandems and had a wonderful time riding around the outer loop of the island. No problems at all and they let you rent by the hour and then prorate each hour after that. Highly recommend this place.

Incredibly RUDE and AGGRESSIVE staff! Do not rent from this shop. My personal bike had a flat tire so I stopped here to see if they could fix it. I leaned my bike up next to a pole near the front of the shop while I waited in line. I thought it was out of the way but apparently not.. A staff member grabbed my bike and literally threw it into the street as if it was scrap metal. A bunch of people walking by saw it happen too and were shocked. Avoid this place!!

We will only use the Mackinac Bike Barn for bike rentals on Mackinac Island! The prices are a lot more reasonable that the other bike shops. We have always had great service, and the team is always open to giving us recommendations and tips for the bike ride. In the past, we have rented a toddler seat that hooks right onto the bike, but this time they did not offer that, only the pull behind burley - we were a little bummed! Overall, always a positive experience renting through this place!
