My first experience eating a pastie is that I have nothing else to compare to to know how this one rates against another. I wanted to try it due to a friend telling me it was a thing up here. I was not a fan, and neither was my wife. The crust was great. I just thought the filling of meat and potatoes was very bland. Added salt and the onion gravy, and it helped, but it was just not enough. It's probably different for those who grew up eating them than someone from Southern Illinois, not knowing a difference. The shop is nice and orderly but only has 2 tables and a bar to sit at.

Was super helpful. Told us to order a family pack to save money and kept my friend's in the oven until he got there. Fabulous crust.

Love their pasties. I bought a case of them so I can have an easy to make lunch or dinner when I don't want to deal with prepping and cooking food. I love getting any of their pasties on the menu. Breakfast pasty is superb.
I like BBQ sauce on the beef pasty when I heat it up at home.

My husband and I were in Michigan for a vacation. We were told we had to try pasties - so we hit up this local spot in Marquette. Let's break it down:

Environment - quaint, cute spot, clean

Staff - very friendly

Price - reasonable for the quantity of food

Pasty - the crust was very good, flaky and tasty. The filling was very bland. Mostly potatoes (shredded), with some beef (dry and bland)

Overall, we probably wouldn't eat here again.

Well for our first visit to the UP everyone told us "you have to get a pasty, they are amazing".
Based on the reviews we read, Lawry's was supposedly the best the UP has to offer and place to go.
When we entered the shop on a cold rainy day we expected good customer service. What we did get was a less than enthusiastic young man behind the counter. We reviewed the menu and placed our order.
The server pulled these pasties out of a warmer box and dropped them in a bag. He did not ask if we were dining in or taking out (we were dining in). We were not asked if we want gravy or ketchup. No plates, knives or forks.
We proceeded to sit at the table and pull out our first pasty which was the garden classic. When we bit into it and got mostly potatoes we got worried. Where are the vegetables? Next up was the classic 12 oz. pasty out of the bag.....wait, this is it?
When we bit into this mini calzone looking pasty all we noticed was the potato and onions.....very little meat.
From images of traditional UP pastys online we expected chunks of juicy meat, potatoes, onions and carrots. What we got was dry shredded meat with mostly potatoes and onions.
If this is the best the UP has to offer, it was a swing and a miss!
Guess we will have to keep searching for what a good pasty is supposed to look and taste like.
For now we walked away disappointed and hungry.

Stopped by on our way out of town on the recommendation of Artic Cat Adventure owner. We bought two of the cudighi sandwiches and two pasties: 1 Garden medley and 1 beef pasty.

There are drinks available lobby coolers.

I enjoyed the cudighi. Bit of a pizza-like sandwich. Most of the pasties are pre-made so no custom orders. The sandwiches take a bit longer to cook than the pasties, about 10 minutes for mine and they are not premade.

Staff was cheerful and friendly.
