My husband and I ate here when we were in the UP for our anniversary. We both like barbecue so we decided to fry Up-N-Smoke. It was a windy and cool fall night. We didn’t expect that it was a food truck, but it was in a permanent space. There were plenty of picnic tables. There were two sets of cornhole boards for anyone that wanted to play.

Since we’d never tried it, we ordered a three meat platter, which came with three 8oz sides and Texas toast. We ordered brisket, pulled pork, and shredded chicken. For the sides, we ordered cornbread, fried green tomatoes, and fries. When we got the food it looked good and smelled great! The meat was cold! It had good smoky flavor, but it was cold.

My husband said the chicken was juicy, the pork wasn’t dry and had a subtle smoky flavor, and the brisket was dry but also had good flavor. The brisket had a nice bark around the edges and had a slight cracked pepper flavor. The fried green tomatoes were good. The breading was crunchy and had good flavor. The fries were average. We didn’t care for the cornbread; it was dry and smoky-flavored.

The gentleman that waited on us was very nice and attentive. The staff seemed on the ball. If they had better warmers for the food I would have given them a better rating.

Absolutely phenomenal food! The pulled pork and chicken were moist and perfectly smoked. The greens had a great flavor, and the fried green tomatoes were crisp and freshly made. The homemade banana pudding was the best way to finish the meal. Make this a stop.. and then go back again and again!

This place is worth the stop if you’re in Ironwood or worth the trip if you aren’t there. I had the pork belly loaded mac & cheese. The meat was perfectly tender with a nice bark/crisp on the outside. Combined with their house slaw and spicy sauce, it hit all the flavor and texture notes. The couple running the show are very friendly and made great suggestions when I couldn’t decide what I wanted.

We had the catfish and the brisket baked potato and OH MY GOODNESS! The most tender and flavorful brisket! The staff was super welcoming and answered all our questions about their food. I just wish it was warmer outside so we could enjoy the outdoor dining. Super cool vibe with music 🎶

Ordered the loaded pork fries, corn bread, and brisket sandwich. Everything is made to order. Be patient it's worth the wait! Portions are much larger than I expected. Would have loved a little more smaller seating choices so when it gets busy people don't have to feel awkward when sitting next to you. But otherwise loved it all!

The best BBQ I’ve had in my entire life. We live in lower Michigan and had our wedding in Ironwood! We never had the food prior to our wedding but decided to take a chance and have them cater our wedding and I am so happy we did. Everyone was talking about how good the food was. Every time we go to the UP we have to stop for food! Can’t wait to visit in May.

As somebody who grew up in the deep south Mobile, Alabama, I can honestly say that it was the first time I felt like I had been home in 30 years! As a southern woman who loves to talk, I can’t even begin to describe or explain the experience that you will have at Up N Smoke. From the collard greens and the cornbread to the catfish and the southern crack mac & cheese I was crying while eating my dinner. I felt like I was cheating on my grandmother.😂 there is not one downside, bad thing I can say about the entire experience from ordering to leaving was phenomenal. I love how it makes you feel like you’re your grandmother‘s backyard having a barbecue because everyone can just come up to you no matter where you’re sitting, friendly outgoing, just a wonderful all-around family and the food again phenomenal. We are four hours from home when we stopped here and ate And tell you what I would drive the four hours again just to eat here!!!!❤️❤️❤️🥰 #calebeffect

Great BBQ! Collard greens were exceptional. 3 ribs woulda been nice to get 4... ribs fry rib was nice bare spicy bbq wasn't like that spicy but good. Overall the truck and seating are really makes it a cool looking place.
The menu looked big look forward to trying more next time!
