Renee is so helpful and kind and we love our sweet silkie girls. Our blue silkie is only 6ish months old and already laying eggs every day. Highly recommend buying from Backyard Chickies if you’re a first time chicken owner.

I bought 3 hens and a rooster from Backyard Chickies over a year ago. They are all beautiful and thriving. I wanted to add 1 more hen to the flock. I chose a Copper Maran. I got her at 24 weeks old. She is sweet, healthy and very pretty. I highly recommend Backyard Chickies.

Amazing farm with beautiful hard to find breeds! I got a Blue-Laced Red Wyandotte and Jubilee Orpington and they are both healthy, lovely ladies with stunning feathers. Renee was so kind and accommodating! She held the "Available Now" hens I bought an extra few weeks while I was travelling so they would be ready and waiting for me when I got back. I couldn't be happier with my purchase and the joy these little hens will bring to me and the rest of my flock once they're ready to be introduced!

Had such a positive experience with Backyard Chickies! We received 3 Buff Orpington pullets, and they are wonderful! Renee was so attentive and responsive. This was our first experience with purchasing hens, and I would absolutely use them again!

Renee was so kind to me! I don't know why but there are so many scams out there for chickens so I was very cautious and many questions and she was very patient with me. My silkies arrived with no problems!

Renee has been so so so helpful. This is our first time keeping backyard chickens and her counsel from picking breeds and age to coop and run setup has been invaluable. Shipping to the east coast was a breeze and our three young (8 week) hens arrived happy and healthy. We will for sure work with Backyard Chickies so long as we have chickens in our backyard!!

I received 4 chicks (coop-ready silkies in blue, black, white and splash, 6-10 weeks) and they are wonderful! Healthy, happy and so much fun! The noises they make are adorable. Our family enjoys them immensely! The purchase/delivery process was seamless, which was welcome since this was the first time we’ve gotten chickens before! I also appreciate knowing we won’t be surprised that one is a rooster in a few months since they genetically test them to make sure they’re all girls. We can’t wait until they get a bit bigger to venture out of their enclosed run into our backyard and for them to eventually start laying eggs — for now we are trying to hold them regularly and get them used to us so they aren’t so skittish.

edit 10 days in to owning our silkies, I had one die (olive — our oldest). Do you know how traumatic that is to 4 kids who loved and bonded with all of them? This was my first go at owning and caring for chickens — I did an TON of research and reached out to several friends I know that have chickens and it’s has been a nightmare. It has cost me so much time, heartache and money to care for these girls — finding a vet was nearly impossible and when I did it was astronomical to have them seen. Fast forward to one month in and now and 2/3 remaining are sick AGAIN. There’s no reason for it other than that I was given sick chickens from the start and I’m still struggling to get them healthy. Renée never offered any sort of compensation other than free delivery if we wanted to purchase new chickens. We are heartbroken. We never purchased these chickens just for eggs…they were supposed to be pets, family! We still have sick chickens — one who isn’t growing and has a limp and one who looks like she’s always struggling with her health and one who is sick again. I do not recommend purchasing here. I wake up every morning at dawn to let them out of their coop into the run and pray they’re all still alive so I don’t have to tell my kids. What a complete disappointment this has been.

** update: I just had to euthanize one of my 3 remaining due to Marek's disease. This is 3 months into having them from Backyard Chickies. They were supposed to be vaccinated. We are heartbroken. Our vet said this is the third silkie this age from this breeder that he’s had to euthanize in the past few weeks. Save yourself a lot of heartbreak and DO NOT get your chickens from this breeder.
